Quick TV Reviews: Best of times, the worst of times
In the same way that some argue the beginning of the current golden age of television began with Twin Peaks, or even The Sopranos, it will someday come to an end, though we are not anywhere close to that day being here, even as bad as the last episode of Game of Thrones was, and yes it really was that bad.
Though, honestly, Game of Thrones had been off the rails, and not in a good first season of Sleepy Hollow way, but in a terrible, character crushing, moments of brilliance followed by the most epically forgettable scenes of bewildering drek. But, it is done now, and we get to bask in the glory of so many shows that want to take up the crown of ‘Best TV Show, ever’ that Game of Thrones once wore with pride.
And, even more importantly there are a multitude of shows, not trying to be the best, but just trying to be great. Niche shows, adaptations that genre lovers never dreamed could come to pass. And, here is my list of shows I have recently watched and still cannot believe how good they are.
- Fargo and Legion
- Umbrella Academy
- Doom Patrol
- Expanse
And, this is just the list of shows recently I have loved, not even talking of the misses or of the shows I have not watched or don’t even know about. Once you could survey the TV landscape with a single glance at the TV Guide, and now, it is a full time job just collecting all the greatness out there. I will be doing a post on each of these over the next bit.
