Shiri is reading…

I, apparently, tried to read another of Michel Faber’s books quite some time ago (The Crimson Petal and the White, 2002). Honestly can’t remember whether or not I finished it (bad, Shiri, bad). Now that my recollection has kicked in a bit, I’m amazed by Faber’s range. The switch in gender roles with regards to sexual dominance is particularly interesting, even more so because the author is male. First few chapters definitely have my attention.
(concept by JJ Abrams, written by Doug Dorst, 2013)
I started S. earlier this week and I love the concept: a mysterious last novel with a second story developing in the margins… And the margins, wherein there is a conversation between a grad student and an undergrad who works in the library, is fascinating and lovely. Unfortunately, to understand it completely, one has to read the “fake” novel. Which is boring as hell. Still love the concept, shame about the higher word count of the execution.
I hear you on S. I have to pick it up again, though. I stopped reading four or five chapters in because the main story is so dull.
