That Which Shiri is Reading
Been a bit remiss this week, kids. My apologies. Life blah blah blah and so it goes.
Because urban legends being toyed with in tiny towns in your state of residence makes a Stoker-Winner that much creepier. I mean, the creepy shit can’t really spill over to where you live but the hint of possibility…. right? The not spilling over thing. Right? RIGHT?
See what I mean? Haven’t made all that much progress yet, but I think this book is going to be a lot of fun. Provided the lights are on. ALL THE LIGHTS!
I believe I saw a teaser for the film version of Snowpiercer a while back… my back of firm memory indicates it didn’t make much of an impression though it is, perhaps, my fault for not paying enough attention. A
mention of it last week sent me looking for the full trailer which led me to a “wow” which led me on a search for the graphic novel. This is one of those books that makes me which I had some faculty in the language of origin – My Spanish has been sadly neglected but I can still read relatively well, my Arabic has been lost to the ages, and my Hebrew was never that fantastic to begin with but I’ve never even made an attempt at French — because, scrolling through the opinions on Goodreads, I believe this may be one of those works that loses some subtlety and meaning in translation. Speculative works so often do. Regardless, the art is black/white/gray tonal which, in this case, adds to the books
intensity and that alone will keep me turning pages.
I’l do a joint review of books/movie when I eventually get to see the movie. Which I may just do by myself in the middle of the day later this week…
