That Which Shiri is Reading:
I am rereading The Three Musketeers. It’s been ages and, while I remember loving it, I had forgotten quite how much fun it is. Sure, the romantic style, in which one narrates one’s own death aloud for pages, is a bit… much; it’s also good for a giggle or one hundred. The dialogue is truly fantastic, swashes are buckled, love is made, the bad guys get bitch-slapped, and friends are forever (it is, after all, the origin story of the bromance). And hats. A great many silly hats.
I blame you, BBC, for crafting an incarnation which, if not narratively consistent with the source material, has captured its spirit perfectly. Which sparked writing ideas and necessitated a fresh reading (you can tell I’m super bummed). Though had I a hand in the television production, I would make a vociferous case for sillier hats.
