Sentenced: Shiri’s 8-17-14 Edition
This book is fantastic. Straight up swashbuckling fun and the dialogue is absolutely brilliant. And, as I may have mentioned once or twice, I am a total dialogue whore.
Thusly, I have two for you this week, though you could probably open the book to a random page and find another you liked just as much.
The first, from page 42:
” ‘Oh Gods, you’re serious, aren’t you?’ I said, turning away. If Kest ever becomes a saint, the transcendent expression of an ideal, he’s going to be Saint Kest-who-never-fucking-learns. Unfortunately, my need to live up to his expectations of me has always been slightly stronger than my desire to punch him in the face.”
The second, from page 344:
” ‘Who knew it took so little effort to make women fawn over you,’ he said at last.
‘Little effort,” Brasti breathed. ‘Gods, man, you’ve killed a Saint! Do you know what that makes you?’
‘Blasphemous?’ ”
If Dumas were alive today, this is how he’d be doing it.
