That Which Shiri is Reading…
Neuroscience! Neural nets! An Epidemic! A disease that can leave one “locked in” her own body (ever seen that episode of the Twilight Zone wherein the dude is in a car accident and he’s completely paralyzed but still alive and horrible things happen? GAH!)! Android proxies! Experimental drugs! Brain borrowing! Murder! Only Scalzi could put this stuff together and make it into a story that make any kind of sense and he can do it while making a very subtle statement and telling a good joke. A little shy of half done and feel quite confident recommending.
I am, admittedly, behind on my X-Men. I know Wolverine lost his healing factor because I’ve been reading the new Nighcrawler series and I know it has something to do with a mutation (excruciating pain come, easy go, apparently). And I agree with this review on the Nerdist suggesting Logan will make some sort of return (in his case it’s unlikely to be triumphant) in the next year. If the story were just words, I’m not sure how I would feel about it but the art is absolutely exquisite and the prose and pictures together are pretty magical. Darkly, bloodily magical.
