Entering Shiri’s Eyeholes: Strange Doctors and Sushi
The new Doctor Strange #1 sets an intriguing direction for the relaunch and made me snort laugh many times in the course of a day during which I anticipate not snort laughing at all because I’m running on maybe a quarter tank and I’m exhausted and cranky. Don’t know how profound or groundbreaking it will be, but I’m pretty sure I don’t care because sometimes, you just need a snarky, douchebag sorcerer snogging demons during house calls to break you out of your funk and remind you of the beauty of absurdity. Also, the redic cape of legend remains but it is sorcerer’s garb, a mode of transport, and New York hipster scarf.
Speaking of pompous douchebags of the best sort, Anthony Bourdain has a follow up/prequel (just how it works sometimes, kids) to Get Jiro. Dude is a fantastic television presenter and I have very much enjoyed his various memoirs; where fiction is concerned, however, I was seriously underwhelmed by the execution of his novels. Comics are a superior medium for his wit and imagination and I adored Get Jiro. I am anticipating a lot of blood, a massive amount of absurdity involving the Yakuza and sushi chefing, and firearms.
