Prediction: Daredevil S2
Shiri: My brain knows this is basically a well-framed montage of clips from S1. My soul gives zero fucks about what my brain knows and immediately started hyperventilating. The trailer captured the essence of all of these characters, the relationships between them, the tensions in Hell’s Kitchen, the conflicts inherent in every last one of them and they did it utilizing an essential part of the mythos perfectly. If this is the trailer I have a feeling I’m going to need to clear my weekend because I think taking any sort of pause in my viewing that isn’t essential to life is going to be painful.
I’m a but curious vis a vis the release date. There was such a brouhaha recently about Daredevil dropping in full the same day Batman vs Superman was released (3-25) but this trailer proclaims 3-18 as The Day Netflix Crashes Because Everyone is Trying To Watch This Show at The Same Time. I’m actually really curious about the politics and dynamics of the change (if there was one… I simply can’t imagine it’s a mistake). Is Marvel trying to get a jump? Did the two companies work a deal of some sort?
Regardless, while I don’t usually like to rush my life, January can go ahead and be over because Deadpool mid-February and Daredevil mid-March, Civil War close behind. And lest we forget, Doctor Strange after summer break. And I’m sure there are others missing from the list.
It is a really, really good time to be a Marvel nerd.
Luke: OK, Daredevil season 2, this is a good thing. This is most likely going to be a great thing. I am there I am excited and that is about all I can say about that.
Though, I have to say, I hate teaser trailers. And this one is especially bad. Not only is there not one single bit of ‘new’ here, but they spent money having someone make drawings of various scenes from the last season, and then more money animating some explosions, and then even more turning it into video. Bah. They could have saved a bunch of money and just put up some banners that said the release date. And when you start spending this kind of money on something, I tend to get worried. See, trailers are not cheap, promotion is not cheap, and the less cheap things get, the more return people expect something to have. So, unlike the first season of Daredevil, which was done without any sort of expectations, the second season is expected to be a hit, like the first one. And when there are expectations like that, people, for both good and bad, tend to take a closer look, tend to be more involved, tend to meddle. Well, if the production team at Marvel is good, and the seem to be, they will deflect a lot of that and let the creative teams produce something great. But, the more successful this whole Marvel/Netflix thing is the more likely we are to have a show that is killed under the weight of committees and notes…Here is to hoping that it is not Daredevil season 2.
Now, gimmie the trailer that shows us freakin’ Electra and Punisher, dammit.
