What is on my nightstand this week: Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone
I have had a number of people recommend this and heard the author talk a bit about it last year at GenCon.
But, a fantasy world where magic and law are intertwined to the point where you go a wizard for contracts and necromancers work in firms? A number of those pieces feel like they might not work well together as interesting as they sound.
Well, after starting it, I can say it delivers. The world is an interesting, modern twist on a fantasy universe. Not that far into it, but the characters feel fresh and interesting, the whole thing feels like a nice twist on a lot of tropes that needed some twisting around.
Recommended.
