Hannibal Recap: S2E4: Takiawase
Interestingly, they’ve skipped the sashimi course. Which, given the context, I’m pretty sure I’m okay with.
And so we move on to a light, vegetable and seafood dish in which each ingredient is braised separately. No hiding the symbolism on this one, that’s for sure. And I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly stewing right along with Hannibal, Will, Jack, and the rest of the crew.

Well, well Will. Dealing with the Devil in the form of our intrepid asshole, Dr. Chilton. That will certainly set Dr. Lecter stewing, to be kept out of the loop. And kudos where they’re due, the face-off with Lecter was pretty awesome. Took guts. That will probably be ingested as some sort of sausage.
More understanding of how delicate Will’s brain is, how delicate anyone’s brain can be, the broth of chemicals in our brains so delicate, so close to superheating, boiling, so very close to bursting into flames. A bacterial infection, medications, one too many electrical signals. Boom. As someone with some chemical imbalances in the old cranium, to have the fragility of the system on display is even more terrifying than Lecter eating people. Which is plenty terrifying, believe you me. Because while I’m quite sure my dearth of seratonin wouldn’t make me subject to psychological leading, the wrong word at the wrong time can definitely send me into the panic spiral.
All elements of the show’s believability. This exact scenario? Probably not. But the mechanisms, the details? All truth viable. Which makes you wonder about the rest just a little, doesn’t it?
As to the one off case: OH GOD OH GOD NOY THE EYE THE ONE THING I CAN’T TAKE IS THE EYE! I’ve been a nurse for 8 years and the only thing I can’ stand is the FUCKING EYES! Would you go to an acupuncturist who is THAT fucking creepy looking? Or who has teeth like Shelly Duvall in The Shining? Red alert, kids.
And then we have Will Starting to remember. Starting to remember some very important things. like the fact he was in the room when Hannibal admitted to Eddie Izzard’s character that he was the Chesapeake Ripper. Fucking a.
Couple of missteps: Beverly bringing a civilian contractor, a psychiatrist, who’s been accused of murder, if even by an intelligent psychopath, to work on a body? No. Sorry. Even if he is a former surgeon.
Number 2: as usual, it’s the women who does something stupid, like go to a fucking cannibal’s house, without backup even though, as an FBI agent, even a lab monkey, she should most certainly know better. I get she’s the one Will is talking to, but Jack is suspicious enough he would certainly have agreed to backup. It’s not like Hannibal was going anywhere… although now…
Considering I grabbed my husband’s shirt, shook him, and screamed, “oh my GOD THIS SHOW IS SO AWESOME!” I’d say they’re small quibbles.
Until next week, kids, non appetite. (Sorry. Could’t resist)
