That to Which Shiri is Listening

Well, I suppose technically I’m listening to the thunder…
One year, when I was very young, there was a thunderstorm during our Passover seder. Any time anyone uttered the portentous, “with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm,” there was lightening and thunder. I was terrified. My grandfather, who I miss more every day, smiled at me and said, “Don’t worry, honey. That’s just god bowling. The lightening is when he gets a strike.”
I’m not so much with the religion these days, so when my son gets scared (my daughter likes to run to the front door or stand, yes, stand, in the window sill and watch), we tell him it’s Thor calling the other Avengers for a mission. Every time I say it though, I think about my grandfather, giggle a little, and wish he’d had a chance to tell my kids what a great bowler god is.
A strike every time!
Probably why thunder is one of my favorite things in the world to listen to.
