Sentenced: Luke’s 2014-06-8
Not only does no water fall on him, but all the sweat evaporates from his body. His shirt is warm and dry. A light, spring breeze from nowhere covers us. He smells of flowers and ozone.
The Water That Falls on You from Nowhere by John Chu
We are going to talk about this story during our Hugo show, but I love this series of sentences. Over the course of a few lines, these and the ones before it, both the love of the two main characters and the world the story takes place in is setup without any info dump or talking heads. In fact, these lines cover both reinforcing the love of the two characters and the boundaries of the world all at once. This story is beautiful and heart wrenching (and even excusably clichéd).
