That Which Shiri is Reading
I didn’t get to read as much as I would have liked on vacation, though I cant really complain. The Bay Area is always a blast and the kids had a fantastic time with their Auntie JJ and with her cats, Smoky and Bandit, who actually allowed Stinky 1 and Stinky 2 to get remotely close to them. I did get the lone Sondheimer seat across the aisle on the flight from SFO to LAX (about an hour) to stick my face in this one. Epic and I’m only 12% in, so… can’t wait to see where it goes.
Scrolling through Facebook I saw a list of the “10 Most Interesting Superman Stories Ever” or some such titled thing and the “one in which Superman lands in a farming community in the Ukraine instead of in Kansas” caught my eye. In the end it was really another standard Superman story, but the little details kept me interested enough to finish the 160 page trade. Definitely something there, and something that, in the right hands, might make a fantastic novel… Also, time loops, which always trip me out; one of my worst existential fears is waking up and finding out I’m my own teenage fever-dream and having to go through all the crap again or some such. I have to psych myself up and shut down my conscious brain entirely to watch one of the best Doctor/Donna episodes of all time: Turn Left.
