I’m afraid of the Internet…
I am afraid of the Internet. All of the tech that makes the Internet up and all the tech that has come along with it. Now it is not an end of the world with the machines that are going to get us type of fear, a la Terminator. No, it is something else.
When I grew up, cameras and film were so expensive that making a movie was a dream for weird summer camps or special classes in high school. Self-publishing was going down to Kinkos, cutting up some magazines for photos and story or two. Then with tape and paste putting something together. When done, you’d run off as many copies as you could afford. And, they would all suck.
Now the tools and the methods are everywhere. The Internet and tech have blasted forward and made things like video editing and hi-def publishing available to everyone. And with Raspberry PI ($30 embeddable computers), 3D printers, crazy cheap manufacturing from China, etc., etc. the possibilities are endless and accessible.
That great idea, that thing you want to make, that thing you want to build, to write, to program, to whatever? Everything you need is within reach. It is all there, ready, just waiting.
And are you going to take it on? Find the time? Rise to the challenge? INSET PITHY STATEMENT HERE?
That is why the Internet scares me. All the tech, all the stuff, all the barriers are removed. The only thing left between me and that great THING, the one barrier that keeps the vision in my head from being made real, it is ME.
That is why the Internet scares me, it hasn’t left me anything else to be afraid of.
