Today’s Ass In Gear Music Brought To You By…
I don’t sleep much and lately, I’ve been draggig ever more than is standard. 5-7 am, however, are the quietest hours in my house and thus, those wherein I am most likely to be able to slap on my headphones, enter the bubble, and focus.
Coffee is the first thing I do. The second is usually pick the music that will keep me going when, after about an hour of wakefulness, the holy crap, I only got five hours of sleep and my body knows it kicks in.
Today, that music is The Mavericks’ new album, Mono.
The Mavericks are difficult to genre quantify because 1) they’ve been around forever and have worn all sorts of hats and 2) according to the interview I heard on WYEP yesterday, they don’t care so long as they’re making beautiful music. Latin, rock, country, and everything in between come in to play (har har). I, frankly, don’t give a crap because no matter how it’s classified, the music these gents make is sublime.
In a most fabulous turn of events, after years of not recording, we’ve gotten two new albums in two years and they are touring like mad men.
I’m just hoping that one of these times they stop by Pittsburgh, I’ll actually be able to go.
