Prediction: Doctor Who, Series 9
Shiri: I was not impressed by Series 8. Actually, that’s an unfair assessment because I gave up about half-way through, though I hear it didn’t improve much. Capaldi is excellent as the Doctor and it broke my heart to walk away, but the whole entity was… hollow. Missing something. Like a companion I have give a shit for. There’s always been a bit of grimdark about the Doctor and his humans but last season, it bogged down the lovely adventure bits, and the running bits, and the saving people and planets and galaxies bits.
Short version: the writing sucked balls.
The series trailer, plus a couple of articles I’ve read, have given me hope that things may be back on track and that justice may yet be done Capaldi’s incarnation. Seriously, though, can we find a way to bring Donna back? Because can you imagine the two of them locked in the box together? It wouldn’t matter one bit how big it is on the inside…
I’ll watch the first few. I’m going to have to be really impressed.
Luke: I remember having to search and hunt across the TV schedule and then figure out how to stay up and be able to watch Dr. Who, just hoping and praying that it would be the next episode of the series before that I never got to finish. It never was, but it always left me with another cliffhanger, another moment I could imagine exactly how the crazy man with the cheap prop was going to defeat the rubber monster this time
Then the recent Doctors added effects and characters that when they combined with a great story could now and then approach that sense of wonder, that sense of amazement. But, not for a while now.
I don’t know if it is me or if it was the last season of Dr. Who (Sherlock left me cold as well), but I am just not looking forward to this new one. I might try to finish last season, but with the plethora of other great shows out there and less and less time to watch…I would really need a tardis to find time to watch this upcoming season.
