Post-Mortem: The Lego Movie

Shiri’s Post-Mortem: I was wrong. Totally, completely, absolutely wrong. The Lego Movie was adorbs, funny, and sweet. The voices were perfectly cast, especially the core mini-figure group of Morgan Freeman, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, and Chris Pratt and, somehow, it was clear via Lego face and well edited pause no one was taking themselves too seriously. The story was nothing new but wasn’t at all stale due to the impeccable timing and balance of the humor, the 100 minutes strewn with geek references; adult humor; clever puns; kid giggles; and fart/butt jokes that made my father, my husband, and my son laugh at exactly the same time. Most importantly, the not at all subtle, but wonderfully presented, messages about individuality and the importance of family gave me the warm fuzzies and made me want to go home and play all the Legos with my kids ALL the time.
Luke’s Post-Mortem: That was awesome. Just everything it could have been and more. I was expecting an hour and a half long commercial, a la the Saturday morning TV shows of the 80s, and I could not have been more wrong. Run, don’t walk, and go see it now. It will be a huge hit, and it deserves it.
