On my audio devices: 2015.11.04 edition – Back-catalogues and searching
I have been on a kick lately of doing entire back-catalogues of artists. I worked through the official releases of Bauhaus not too long ago. And, now have been working my way Halo by Halo through the Nine Inch Nails releases. (Every official NIN release has a number, Halo XX, in the order they were released.) And other than some hard to find singles, hard to find in that they are in the basement somewhere with all of my cds, and a couple of variants (damn you Head Like a Hole Opal remix only on the super-expensive UK single) I have found almost all of the albums pretty easy to find.
But, this whole process of finding and listening to an artists entire official output in order I find a rewarding effort. Not only do I get to listen to a ton of music I might not have listened to in a long time, but it gives you that great searching and collecting sort of thrill.
So, the days of scouring Tower Records for that missing import single might be gone, but take a band, get the list of every release they have ever done, and listen to them in order. Music with a struggle, it only makes it sound better.
