(The idea of this feature is to take a single sentence or paragraph from what Shiri or I have been reading that stuck with us. And, then try to figure out what made it work, what was it that really made it stick with us.)
Eating a peach is like eating a newborn baby’s head. In that it’s all soft and fuzzy. Not that peaches taste like babies. I don’t eat babies. Or peaches, actually. Because they remind me of eating babies. Vicious circle, really.
Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson
Humor can be hard. Timing, rhythm, and voice all have to be working together for the humor to come across. And this set of sentences, work so well. It feels more like something that someone might actually say. The voice just pours off the page. And the humor keeps coming. This whole piece tickled me to the point I was laughing out loud. It also has a bit of honesty (come on who has not looked at a baby and thought peach, or vice versa), and is quite twisted. Maybe this is not everyone sense of humor, but it really worked for me.
