Prediction: The Machine
Shir’s Prediction: OH, GOD IT’S THE ROBOTS TAKING OVER OUR DARK AND GRITTY FUTURE WHERE THEY FOUND A LOOPHOLE IN THEIR PROGRAMMING! EVERYBODY RUN! *thbt* Whatever. If you’re going to do this movie, you’re going to have to beat Blade Runner and this dreck, kids, is no Blade Runner. It’s not even the theatrical cut of Blade Runner. A good evil robot movie makes you feel you should run to the kitchen and unplug your coffee machine. Because it might eat you while you’re sleeping and turn you into Soylent Green to fuel the washing machine it’s going to blast into space. You’ll note that after watching this trailer, I sat down to write blog entry. With absolutely no concern regarding the sentience of my laptop. *Yawn* Save yourself $15 and rent the director’s cut of Blade Runner for $3.99 (less if you don’t care about the high def) instead of dragging your ass out to see this pale copy.
Luke’s Prediction: This is like shooting fish in a barrel. What piece do we focus on for abuse on this movie. Other than it looks like Species with robots, the movie kind of looks interesting. Though, why you would build a robot with a woman’s transparent naked glowing body seems kind of strange. And why you need so many soldiers that are easily taken over.
Here is one piece of advice to anyone writing a book or a movie about technology going out of control stories, there is never just one prototype, never. You don’t spend that much money and time and effort to build something new without failures or backups. And there is always a NEXT version that you are working on. Look at how real engineering projects work, engineering is actually building something, where as science is proving that you could (in a gross over-simplification of two vast subjects).
It is movies like this that remind me of how there is a conservative vein running though SFF that sometimes depresses me. Hard to be the genre if the future, if everything new is bad.
