That Which We Are Reading
Shiri is Reading:
Rapture by Kameron Hurley (2012). The third book in the Bel Dame Apocrypha (God’s War, Infidel, and …) and, at the moment *sob*, the last. While I’m not tearing through this one quite as swiftly as the first two (the pace is a little slower, there’s a bit less *pew pew* and fewer *snicks* of swords being drawn), I am still very much engaged and, in fact, the slower pace suits me because I do not want to say goodbye to the amazing world Ms. Hurley built not the characters she’s given her readers. I’m only about 2/3 through, so I’m not sure yet who makes it and would, therefore, would be available to reprise, or perhaps cameo in other books set in the same world, but I very much hope Ms. Hurley returns to the place, these cultures, and their inhabitants. And I hope it’s soon, though her blog indicates she’s quite busy with a new series at the moment. A high fantasy one. That I plan on reading. I gave up on most high fantasy a long time ago, but if this lady is at the helm, I’m in, at least for a test run. I would highly suggest picking up the three Bel Dame volumes in the same order, or at least at the same time, because you’re going to want to read straight though. I mean, my library pile is collecting dirt and the moment, I have stuff on the list for the podcast, and jumped straight from Infidel to Rapture without even worrying about either of those things. Me. Not worrying… that should tell you how good this series is and how talented Ms. Hurley is. Now. Go away. Both kids are actually napping and I have a book to finish.
