Girl Power!
A couple of cool beans girl power things that came to my attention today:
This weeks episode is entitled “The Naked and the Nerds.” The nerd part is a discussion of “nerd holidays” (Free Comic Book Day, PI Day, May the Fourth Be With You, etc). Stick around for that. First though, the crew discusses nudity in popular culture, which leads to Linda Holmes giving very eloquent exposition on why female and male nudity in movies and on TV are two very different, and disparate, things. Also, you get to count the number of times people say “boobs” on an NPR podcast.
You can keep up with the Pop Culture crew, and pop culture in general, on NPR’s Monkey See Blog. Follow Linda Holmes on Twitter @nprmonkeysee. Seriously. Follow her.
The other kick-ass chick awesomeness came to me by way of the hubs and BuzzFeed.
Click on the image below and discover the origin of Blackbird. It is pretty much the coolest thing ever. Best spoiler ever? The creator is a young woman displeased with the lack of female protagonists in comics.

Kick it, ladies.
