BOOYAH!
This year’s Nebula Award winners have been announced and, as The Mary Sue points out, all of the fiction winners are women.
People shouldn’t be awarded any sort of literary prize on the basis of gender (unless it’s some sort of gender related contest, clearly), not Nebula, nor Hugo, nor Pulitzer, nor Nobel. Nor should people be denied same for lack of certain parts and the posession of others. Plenty of male authors, credit where it’s due, have spoken out on the treatment of women at cons, in professional Sci-fi/fantasy organizations, in publishing, etc (John Scalzi and Chuck Wendig come to mind, though I know there are many, many others).
Even if the sexist contingent is the minority these days, they’re a loud and vocal one.
*Waves at the jerks and smiled sweetly* We’re here, gents. And we’re here to stay. Get used to it.
